Music for all

Music plays a key role in nurturing well-rounded, confident and empathetic individuals. It fuels creativity, enhances cognitive abilities and brings clarity of mind, but most of all, it’s fun. All students at St George’s have the opportunity to participate in music, through class lessons and private tuition during the school day, as well as after-school clubs and music ensembles.

A step in the right direction

Nothing clears the mind and prepares the body for learning like movement, and at St George’s our students have many ways to include physical activity into their days. Our students have weekly PE (physical education) lessons and competitions with other schools are organised throughout the year. Students are introduced to a variety of different sports, allowing them to not only develop physical skills but also discover new passions and talents.

STEAM = Science, Technology, Engineering, the Arts and Mathematics

STEAM is not just another education acronym. It is an approach that integrates the disciplines of science, technology, engineering, the arts and mathematics, and encourages students to think more broadly and innovatively. At St George’s our STEM and Sustainability coordinators work with teachers and students across the school to weave these disciplines together.

At the heart of our STEAM and Sustainability work is the concept of design thinking. We encourage St George’s students to engage with real-life ideas and concepts, to explore how we might solve the great problems confronting our planet and our people. 

Early Years

At the heart of our EYFS approach is the belief that children learn best through structured play, exploration and positive relationships. Every classroom is a carefully organised and managed space where children can experiment with numbers, letters, art, music, crafts, sharing ideas and imaginative play. Open-ended resources and well-planned environments encourage curiosity and deep engagement, while our Early Years staff extend learning through effective questioning, modelling and scaffolding.  
 
We believe that emotional well-being, confidence and independence are just as important as academic learning. Our Early Years teachers take time to help our students build kind, caring relationships with each other, navigating the complexities of being a good friend and establishing the foundations of excellent learning: communication, collaboration and empathy.

The world is a stage

St George’s students are no strangers to the stage. They give regular performances to peers and parents, helping them to build confidence from an early age. The performances are woven into their studies in ways that help solidify their learning, while building public speaking skills, creativity and self-expression.

Books, books, books

Our libraries are places of inspiration and wonder, where children immerse themselves in stories about people and the world around us, and embark on endless adventures through the pages of our books. Here they can escape to faraway places and times from the comfort of a cosy corner, igniting a lifelong love for learning and curiosity.

Our well stocked Primary and Secondary libraries contain age-appropriate books that support students’ learning across all subjects, while also helping to expand their interests and understanding of the world and their places in it.
